Marinara sauce is a mix of crushed red pepper, garlic and basil. Italian tomato sauce, on the other hand, is an intricate affair. It starts with red tomatoes that are seasoned with basil, onion, carrot, celery and bay leaves and then left to simmer until it is thickened and becomes rich in flavour.

Why Do You Need To Peel Tomatoes?

The skin of the tomato has a different texture from the tomato flesh. It will remain so in Italian sauces and you will get tiny chunks of skin instead of a uniformly smooth mixture. Moreover, the tomato skin is heavy which imparts a better flavour because of the presence of a nutrient called flavonols. If you really want a smooth and thick Italian tomato sauce you will consider peeling with tomatoes. Though it’s completely a matter of preference but people who want the lowest and the smoothest sauce always come under peeling the tomatoes.

The Process Of Peeling Tomatoes

Boil water in a hot pot. Keep some iced water. Drop the tomatoes into the boiling water and cook time for 1 minute. Now remove them with a slotted spoon and plant them immediately into the ice water before you stop cooking. This will make the tomato skin slide. This is one of the easiest ways to peel tomatoes if you do it with a blunt knife, it’s going to mess the process.
